This is a recreation of the Miss Universe CAO Crown, the crown worn for a single year in 2008. Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam, wearing this crown, and she remains the only Miss Universe ever to wear it.

The crown was designed by Rosalina Lydster and Dang Kim Lien of CAO Fine Jewelry in Vietnam, the host country that year. It is made of 18 karat white and yellow gold and set with over 1,000 precious stones, including 555 white diamonds, 375 cognac diamonds, smoky quartz crystals, and morganite gemstones. The original crown was valued at $120,000.

Every part of the design carries meaning: the yellow gold stands for Vietnam's thriving economy, the curves of stones represent the growth and potential of each country, the crane is the symbol of Vietnamese spirit and culture, and the heart stands for faith, hope, and unity. When her reign ended, Mendoza chose the Mikimoto crown to crown her successor, so the CAO crown was worn only on her own crowning night.
